Matthew W. Case Study
Matthew W. was concerned about the negative environmental effects that stem from traditional energy sources. “I wanted to be an example in my neighborhood and to encourage others to do the same,” with regards to taking steps towards encouraging more people to implement use of clean and renewable energy sources within their community.
Upon researching logistics, benefits, and the financials involved with installing a solar system, he said he was “comfortable with the breakeven point for my implementation,” and especially looks forward to the period that comes after breaking even.
The return on your solar investment can occur as quickly as six years. The solar payback period is calculated based on the cost of installing and implementing your solar system, net of any incentives, along with the savings earned from dramatically reduced electric bills. Solar panels can last upwards of 30 years!
When Matthew researched companies to work with on his solar project, IRE offered “the most favorable combination of the multiple bids received, of the technology proposed, price, and my comfort level with the company.” Once his solar project was scheduled for installation, it was completed on time and with satisfaction on the quality of the components.
Matthew worked directly with Norm, Ray, and Eric. “The company was communicative and answered all of my many questions and responded in a timely manner,” he reported. When a delay occurred at the onset of their planning, Matthew said IRE provided good customer service and worked with him to provide a remedy.
When speaking of the continued benefits of going solar, Matthew says that being able to review the consumption and generation monitoring in an app “increases the impact of the project by making the benefits very apparent, and can be used to help me understand my home’s habits and patterns and make any changes I want to make.” He also says he shows the app to others interested in going solar and thinks it’s a great selling point.
Matthew and his family have felt the economic benefits of having very low ComEd bills, but have also noted that their solar project has encouraged them to take a harder look at their energy usage and consider ways to shift their usage to more advantageous times. Looking forward, they plan to swap some gas appliances for electric to further tap into the solar energy now available to them.
