Family Owned & Operated Since 2010

ABOUT US

After 25 years as a commercial electrician, Norm Johnson suddenly faced a serious health crisis. Following multiple surgeries, he confronted reality; it was time to pivot from the physical demands of heavy construction. The year was 2010 and solar was just starting to make headlines. The more Norm learned about this alternative energy solution, the more he realized its significance.

Norm named his company Independence Renewable Energy. His goal then remains the same today: to help people become more energy resilient by becoming more energy independent.

“Knowledge opens up options,

and options lead to freedom.”

-Norm Johnson, founder of

Independence Renewable Energy

Today, Independence Renewable has a team of solar experts along with an in-house electrical division. Located in Sandwich, Illinois, we’re on a mission to share our expert knowledge with people in local communities. Renewable energy will most likely never be our only source of energy. There will always be a blend of energy generation from hydro, fossil, wind, solar and biomass. Solar, however, is rapidly growing, building our resiliency into the future.

Independence Renewable is a family-owned and operated business with the latest technology, installation techniques and top notch customer service to ensure system longevity.
